Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will the Police still respond to my security alarm system?
A: Many jurisdiction have imposed fines and/or other restrcitions as it applies to Police Response to security systems. False alarms are a huge problem facing the Police community, and in many areas the clear message is that they are no longer interested in being in the response business.
In the Greater Montreal area, we are pleased to offer our Alarm Response Service, which offers a quick and cost-effective response. Note, however, that some areas simply cannot support Alarm Response.
You must ensure that your security system is well maintained and that every user knows how to use the system and has a valid pass number. Also make sure that your Emergency Contact names and telephone numbers at Sentinel's Monitoring Central Station, are current.
Q: Lately I have heard a lot about Carbon Monoxide Detectors. What are they used for and what is their importance?
A: Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and poisonous gas which is produced when fuels containing carbon are burned where there is too little oxygen and when fuels are burned at too high temperatures. CO (carbon monoxide) is poisonous when inhaled because it mixes with hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying substance in red blood cells. The hemoglobin then cannot take up oxygen it requires from the air. This lack of oxygen causes cells and tissues to die. CO is especially dangerous because it has no odor. The exhaust gases of gasoline engines always contain CO. Automobile and lawn mower engines should never be operated in closed, unventilated areas.
Many deaths occur each year when CO gas escapes from stoves and furnaces where ventillation is improperly regulated. Many deaths also occur each year from faulty automobile exhaust pipes that allow exhaust fumes to escape and enter the passenger compartment. Carbon Monoxide is a killer.
It is for this reason that Sentinel Alarm offers Carbon Monoxide Detectors. They are an important part of a total security system for any home or business.
